First Black Female Astronaut

Welcome to the First Day of Black History Month

Mae C Jemison, a Chicago native, became the first black woman astronaut in 1987. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, I assume it’s the chapter at Stanford University.

She holds a BS in Chemical Engineering, a BA in African and Afro American Studies; and her MD from Cornell. Successful is an understatement. She did all of that as she was turning 25 years old.

On her first, last and only flight (From Sept. 12-20, 1992) she logged 190 hours, 30 minutes and 23 seconds.

Give it up for this young, not yet 60 years old, Black Woman.
