Junior Walker

This is my first salute to one of my very famous family members, Junior Walker of Junior Walker and the All Stars. A lot of young people have heard his song “shotgun” played and not realized they were listening to a rather old song- which was placed in the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2002.

He was from Arkansas and grew up in South Bend, Ind. His mother married one of my great-grandpa’s brothers. He took his step-father’s last name. (Only family members would know this as it’s not listed on his wikipedia page and you can still hear the tales of him from my grandpa when he and my grandma used to go hang out with him.)

Jimi Hendrix played the song live with the All Stars. (Can you top that?)

“Shotgun” has been featured on movies such as “Who’s That Knocking At My Door?” (1967), “Misery” (1990), “Malcolm X” (1992), and “How Stella Got Her Groove Back” (1998).
