First and foremost, Golf has lost a legend, groundbreaker and Half of Famer who passed away Feb. 3rd. My condolences go out to Mr. Charlie Sifford’s family and friends.
Sifford paved the way for the career of Tiger Woods when he became the first black to play on the PGA Tour in 1961. Like most sports at the time, Golf had not only forbidden women from playing (thus the acronym Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden), but minorities were also banned. He founght and played in the black sponsored alternative UGA.
Sifford won the PGA Senior Championship in 1975. He was 92 years old.
