Day 20: Myra Adele Logan and Farish Street

In honor of the great work done by Howard Unversity, which I reblogged, I will be posting about the two people they posted in the story

Myra Adele Logan – the first woman to perform open heart surgery; she was Valedictorian at Atlanta University and attended school at Columbia. And she was the first black woman elected a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Farish Street – a street in Jackson, Miss. named for the black family that owned businesses on that street for 4 generations through the 1970s.
